Photography
Born to a Sicilian father and Maltese mother, after some time in Sicily as a child I grew up in Malta.
I have been passionate about nature from a very young age, then followed by my love for the lens and travelling it was the perfect match to capture unique moments on land and underwater. Being self-taught and always trying different techniques and equipment led me to some of my specialties that push the camera to its limits, including night photography, underwater and macro.
My Passion for Photography
Wildlife
It is one of the most rewarding genres of photography to pursue. One has the honour of spending moments in an intricate system, that of the animal kingdom. You are able to see and experience the calmness of nature but also the brute reality of survival of the fittest. Learning their habits and behaviours in general to predict their actions is essential to get the desired shots.
Macro
Seeing the world from a different perspective, macro photography emphasises pattern and texture with extreme close up shots. Using specialised equipment to capture hidden details, macro photography requires a lot of patience as each microscopic movement will alter the focus point from the live subjects.
Astro
Shooting at night is unlike anything else. Not having the light of a sunrise or a sunset cast on the landscape, the camera is pushed to it's limits shooting in pitch darkness with just the subtle glow of the moon and stars to find the best composition. With the correct techniques, details hidden in the darkness to the human eye can really come to life, making some truly amazing photographs.
Underwater
Underwater photography is one of the most challenging, as it is performed in a completely different world to which we are used to, one in which we are merely visitors for a moment in time in the vastly dark blue oceans. Fortunately living on an island surrounded by sea I can freely take the opportunity to explore its hidden underwater beauty capturing marine life, shipwrecks and submerged cave systems.
